Navigating the DMCC Act’s New Consumer Law Regime for Unfair Commercial Practices in the UK

July 2, 2025

Event summary

As of 6 April 2025, the regulation of unfair commercial practices in the UK has undergone a major shake-up with the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCC Act) now in force.

The new rules increase enforcement risk for all consumer-facing businesses operating or selling to UK consumers, with sectors such as digital markets, digital entertainment, internet retail, advertising and online holiday booking facing heightened scrutiny by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). These sectors were among the top 10 for CMA complaints last year.

Please join members of Cooley’s European tech regulation team for a webinar on the unfair commercial practices provisions of the DMCC Act and its new enhanced consumer enforcement regime administered by the CMA.

This session will help you understand:

  • What constitutes unfair commercial practices
  • New rules on customer reviews, subscription contracts and the display of pricing
  • Compliance and risk mitigation strategies
  • Potential enforcement risk for your business
